How to choose a grid to prepare
your cryo-EM sample

Traditionally, grids for cryo-electron microscopy (cryo-EM) are post-clipped after sample preparation with blot and plunge technology to measure in the electron microscope. Typically, your lab will have a glow discharger, a blot and plunge freezing device, and a clipping station to handle the sample preparation workflow. You will recognize the dangers that come with the manual handling and post-clipping grids after vitrification: grids are often damaged while doing so. So how to overcome the dangers and increase your flexibility to influence the quality and thickness of the ice layer?
