How to choose a grid to prepare
your cryo-EM sample
Traditionally, grids for cryo-electron microscopy (cryo-EM) are post-clipped after sample preparation with blot and plunge technology to measure in the electron microscope. Typically, your lab will have a glow discharger, a blot and plunge freezing device, and a clipping station to handle the sample preparation workflow. You will recognize the dangers that come with the manual handling and post-clipping grids after vitrification: grids are often damaged while doing so. So how to overcome the dangers and increase your flexibility to influence the quality and thickness of the ice layer? This application note highlights different grid types for your application and helps you to get quality samples and images of your biological structures.
